Our Hotel Mascot
Expect a delightfully different welcome at The Royal Sonesta. The Commodore of New Orleans is quite the catch – he’s the congre-gator at every bash and notably makes himself known for his unexpected sightings across the Big Easy. Like the city itself, The Commodore welcomes guests to the iconic French Quarter with a grin and a dash of mystery, mischief, and intrigue.
A Timeless Legacy
Art Collection
Sonesta’s Art Collection, initiated in the 1960s, is a pioneering corporate art program featuring over 7,000 pieces by renowned artists like Frank Stella, Andy Warhol, and Roy Lichtenstein. Many pieces were commissioned to harmonize seamlessly with the hotel’s architecture and design. These works, spanning various movements, enhance the hotel’s public spaces, such as the lobby and Restaurant R’evolution.
An Iconic Address
The site of The Royal Sonesta New Orleans dates back to 1721, when it was part of the original French Quarter layout. Over time, it has evolved from a residential area to a bustling commercial district. In the 1960s, the Sonnabend family transformed the historic brewery site into the iconic hotel we know today. The Royal Sonesta New Orleans opened its doors in 1969, preserving the rich history of the French Quarter while offering a sophisticated Bourbon Street experience.
